Steve Linick becomes the new inspector general of the department. From 2008 until this time, including the entire duration when Clinton was secretary of state, the department had only a temporary acting inspector general. The inspector general is the department’s chief watchdog and is responsible for detecting and investigating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement.
